FUNKY STREET SOULFUL SELECTION

3 May 2012

Due to time constraints I’ve been unable to do my usual ‘pick of the week’ however I’m going to do my best to bring you a round up of quality cuts on a monthly basis featuring some of the tracks which I personally think need special praise, so here goes (in no particular order).

Luv City & Diana Waite – Love your Love (Soundmen On Wax)

A Kenn Yamanaka and Diana Waite collaboration brings this tune to your ears with a lovely piano melody and Ms Waites jazz tinged delivery. Eight mixes in all – Phil Hooton comes correct with his Latin Jazz remix that hits the spot.

Monocles & Slezz feat Vusani – Still (Vialocal)

I’ve been playing this for some time time now and it’s a corker! Great vocals from Vusani. Best mixes for me are the original with the Vialocal Underground Mid-day Mix just taking it at the tape.

ChinahBlac – Blown Away (Honeycomb Music)

Josh Milan continues his fine run of form with his Honeycomb imprint and the excellent retro sounding “Blown Away” from ChinahBlac. The string laden Main vocal does it for me – now where’s me flares??

KlevaKeys feat Julie Iwheta – Moving On (House Keys Records)

Eighth release from House Keys and this one features the vocal talents of Julie Iwheta. A generous portion of soulful goodness garnished with a lovely piano line, funky bass and a catchy synth holding it all together. Distant People on remix duties but again it’s the original that’s my preferred choice.

(Frank Ainsworth)
