FUNKY STREET WEEKLY PICK 10-April-11

11 April 2011

Richard Earnshaw feat. Imogen Ryall – Cry Me A River (Groovefinder Records)

Culled from Earnshaw’s debut album “In Time” and afforded a clutch of brand new remixes comes this cover of the 1950’s Julie London Jazz classic “Cry Me A River”. Imogen’s rendition works effortlessly with the modern grooves across the whole package and is not deprived of it’s Jazzy touch. Richards’ album version is not here which is a shame as it’s superb but he delivers the goods with a classic vocal and dub. I’m quite liking the simple Scrimshire mix with it’s quirky rhythm and subtle piano but it’s Black Coffee’s magnificent rework that sets this thing on fire, so hot it’s gonna melt the dancing shoes of house-heads all over the world. Throw in a leftside wobble mix and it’s a winner all round.
