Jay-J Birthday Special – Yogi & Phil Toke – c2e Music 21-feb-13

3 March 2013

Jay-J and FriendsVery lucky to be able to broadcast West Coast maestro Jay-J’s birthday celebration at the Civic Underground in Sydney live on my c2eMusic radio show on Feb 21st (as you can see I was pretty happy :)).
It was a great night even Miguel Migs was there for his friends birthday.  Not often you have that much talent in one room in Sydney.

He was joined on the night by Sydney DJs and producers Random Soul and Phil Toke from Our House Sydney.  Husky and Jay-J finished the night off and that recording can also be found on this site.

Yogi (Random Soul)

RandomSoul 1
Since 2005 Yogi has been one half of Random Soul, and is one of Sydney’s most well respected DJs/Producers,along with Husky they have combined Jay-J & Yogitheir production skills, varied musical  talents and their mutual love of Soul, Jazz and Funk, to bring Random Soul alive in clubs, bars and festivals around the world. Their distinct studio sound can be recognised by the keyboards and vocals performed by Yogi and the jumping bass-lines and driving drums selected by Husky, a sound that has given this duo a solid place in the house music scene, the world over.

Visit the official Random Soul website for more info on this talented duo – http://randomsoulmusic.com/

Phil Toke (Soul Of Sydney, Our House Sydney)

Phil TokeJoining the dots between quality soul, funk, disco, boogie and electro-funk, Phil Toke is a Sydney-based DJ, producer, event organiser and co-founder of local music networks, Soul of Sydney and Our House Sydney.
Phil’s diverse musical style encompasses everything from deep house to afrobeat, disco, soul, and funk. He has a broad musical scope and the ability to keep the quality music flowing, to play with passion and to always keep it coming from the heart.
Having played alongside some of the world’s most influential DJs and vocalists including Marshall Jefferson, Ron Carroll, Joey Negro, Derrick Carter, Chuck Love, John Morales and Dave Morales, Phil brings the music to the people – and the people dig!

The Set

No tracklisting for the session – but as warm up sets go these guys both delivered.  Yogi starting things off on a real soul/funk tip and Phil playing deep smooth house to get everyone in the mood.  They certainly did that.
